Born at Trivandrum Fort, 19th May 1837, youngest son of H.H. Rani Gouri Rukmini Bayi, Senior Rani of Attingal, by her husband, M.R.Ry. Rama Varma Punartham Tirunal, Koil Tampuran of Tiruvalla, education privately. Invested as Heir Apparent with the title of Eliya Raja at Trivandrum Fort, 19th October 1860. Succeeded on the death of his elder brother, 30th May 1880. Installed at a public Durbar, at Trivandrum Fort, June 1880. A great scholar, science writer and journalist, who translated a number of important works from English and other European languages into Malayalam. Patron of agriculture, education and the arts. Founder and Patron of H.H. The Maharaja's School of Arts in 1881 (now the College of Fine Arts Trivandrum). Fellow of the Royal Geographical Soc (FRGS), Linnean Soc, Statistical Soc (London), and Madras Univ (FMU). Mbr Royal Asiatic Soc (MRAS) (London), and Soc etude colonial a maritime (Paris). Patron Poona Gayan Samaj Music Soc, etc. Recieved the Prince of Wales's silver medal (1875), and KIH silver medal (1877), Officer of the Order of Public Instruction of France at Trivandrum, 1859, Arumana Ammachi Panapillai Amma Srimathi Lakshmipilla Kochamma born at at Trivandrum, 1850; died there, 1885) education privately by the Church of England Zenana Missionary Soc, daughter of Arumana Ammachi Srimathi Bharathipilla Kochamma, and a descendant of H.H. Maharaj Raja Ramaraja Sri Padmanabha Dasa Vanchipala Bala Rama Varma I Avitam Tirunal, Kulasekhara Kiritapati Manney Sultan Bahadur, Shamsher Jang, Raja of Travancore. He died at the Ananthavilasam Palace, Trivandrum Fort, 4th August 1885 succeeded by his maternal nephew, having had issue, one son and three daughters. |

Raj Rajeshwar Saramad-i-Rajha-i-Hindustan Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Sardar Singhji Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Jodhpur, GCSI (1.1.1910, KCSI 26.6.1908). Born at Mehrangarh, Jodhpur, 11th February 1880, second son of H.H. Raj Rajeshwar Saramad-i-Rajha-i-Hindustan Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Shri Jaswant Singhji II Sahib Bahadur, Maharaja of Jodhpur, GCSI, by his third wife, H.H. Shri Panwarjisa Pramalji Maharani Bijay Kanwarji Maji Sahiba, educ. privately in Jodhpur, at Mayo Coll, Ajmer, and with the Imperial Cadet Corps, Dehra Dun. Personal Secretary to his uncle, Maharaja Sir Pertab Singh, 1894-1895. Succeeded on the death of his father, 11th October 1895. Ascended the gadi, at Mehrangarh, Jodhpur, 24th October 1895. Reigned under the Regency of his uncle until he came of age and was invested with full ruling powers, at Mehrangarh, Jodhpur, 18th February 1898. Within a short period of attaining his ruling powers, he began to spend state funds on an extrodinary rate and neglected his duties in favour of pleasure, thereby depleting the state revenues and gradually causing the administration to grind to a near halt. The GOI eventually intervened in 1903 and deprived him of his ruling powers, ordered him to refrain from interfering in the active work of his ministers and requested that he reside outside the state at Panchmari. He had certain restricted powers restored to him and was permitted to return to Jodhpur 8th November 1905. Further powers were restored to him in 1906, with full ruling powers being finally restored in 1908. Colonel-in-Chief Sardar Risala (Jodhpur Imperial Service Lancers) 1901-1911. Recieved Delhi Durbar Medal 1903. First at Bundi, 20th February 1892, H.H. Shri Hadoji Maharani Shri Lakhsman Kanwarji Maji Sahiba died at Jamnagar, 17th May 1916, daughter of Colonel H.H. Maharao Raja Sir Raghubir Singh Maharaj Sahib Bahadur, Maharao of Bundi, GCSI, GCIE, GCVO. Second) at the City Palace, Udaipur, 17th April 1907, H.H. Shri Sisodaniji Maharani Shri Kishore Kunwari Bai Sahiba born at Udaipur, 13th February 1890; at Udaipur, 21st March 1911), youngest daughter of H.H. 108 Sri Maharajadhiraj Raj Rajeshwar Ravi Kula Bushana-Mahi Mahendra Yavadarya Kula Kamaldhivakara Chattis Rajkul Singar Maharana Shri Sir Fateh Singhji Bahadur Hindua Suraj Hindupati, Maharana of Udaipur, GCSI, GCIE, GCVO, by his second wife, H.H. Sri Chawdaji Maharani Bakhtawar Kanwarji Sahiba, CI, daughter of Thakore Shri Kolsinhji Chawda, of Varsoda, in Gujarat. He d. at Mehrangarh, Jodhpur, 20th March 1911 cremated there, at Jaswant Thara, having had issue three sons and two daughters by his first wife. |

Mahabat Khan, Nawab of Junagadh

Mahabat Khan, Nawab of Junagarh (1837-1882) with a young man (possibly Bahadur Khan (1856-92). Junagadh, in the Kathiawar region of Gujarat, was founded as an independent state in 1735 by Sher Khan Babi, by expelling the Mughal Governor. Mahabat Khan was the eighth in succession from Sher Khan Babi and was created Knight Commander of the Star of India in 1871 and was succeeded on his death in 1882 by his son Nawab Bahadur Khan. Nawab Bahadur Khan was invested with the Knight Grand Commander of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire in 1890. |

Charles Wood, 1st Viscount Halifax (20 December 1800–8 August 1885), known as Sir Charles Wood, 3rd between 1846 and 1866, was a British Whig politician and Member of Parliament. He served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1846 to 1852. Halifax was the son of Sir Francis Wood, 2nd Baronet, and his wife Anne, daughter of Samuel Buck. He was educated at Eton and Oriel College, Oxford, where he studied classics and mathematics. |
